Institute for Language and Discourse in Business
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting October 01, 2026, and ending after 6 yearsYou have a passion for the English language, linguistics and digital business communication? You would like to engage in research that is meaningful and has social impact? The Institute for Language and Discourse in Business is currently inviting applications for a Research and Teaching Associate.
What to expect
- Research: You will develop and work on your PhD project (spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation), focusing on digital business communication, English language and linguistics, and using corpus-linguistic methods.
- Research support: You will participate in research projects at the Department, engage in data collection, and support publishing activities especially in the area of corpus linguistics.
- Research funding: You will support the development of research funding applications.
- Teaching: You will teach, in any two-year period, a total of four two-hour modules in the Department's core business communication program, starting from the second year of your employment at WU.
- Teaching support: You will provide support in teaching-related areas, such as course and curriculum development, marking and grading student work, and thesis supervision.
- Organizational tasks: You will support senior faculty in their research, teaching, and administration.
- Networking: You will have the opportunity to create your own professional network.
What you have to offer
- A master’s degree: You hold a completed master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: English language and/or linguistics; business communication; organisational communication; corporate communication that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
- Research experience: You have theoretical and methodological competence in linguistics, particularly in methods designed to study large volumes of textual data (e.g., corpus linguistics).
- Research interests: You have research interests that are strongly aligned with the Institute's research profile as well as an interest in developing research projects in the field of digital business communication.
- International experience: It is an advantage if you have gained academic experience in an international, preferably anglophone, environment.
- Teaching experience: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats, and may have already gained initial experience in teaching English and/or linguistics and/or business communication at tertiary level.
- Language skills: Expert command of spoken and written English; a willingness to develop a working knowledge of spoken and written German.
- Social skills: You are able to work in teams and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
